Really, Brenda? Really? You don’t want to be Chief of Police of one of the largest and highest-profile police departments in the country? Perhaps that’s something you should have made known before you put in your application, or perhaps before Chief Pope, who’s wanted the job since he was born, got knocked out of the running. The point is, her trying to get out of her interview with the mayor, while not out of character, was extremely annoying. So much so, that my favorite part of the episode is when everybody went after her for being a jerk.
Usually Brenda’s tunnel-vision as it relates to her job only affects her relationship with the much put-upon Fritz. However, this time, as Raydor and Pope made abundantly clear, her deciding mid-stream that the Chief position is not of interest to her, would have an impact that extends far past her personal life.
So we end the episode with Brenda trading in her giant bag for a hideous tiny little purse that looks like something bought from Claire’s in 1998, and heading across the street to interview with the mayor. I’m still not entirely convinced she’s actually going to get the job, but the show’s creator, James Duff, told Twitter that next week’s finale is certainly going to be significant. He said, “Next week the Mayor selects his new Chief-of-Police. The Closer changes forever!”
That doesn’t necessarily say that Brenda gets the job, but it would be weird if he says that, and then she doesn’t get the job, making things simply return to normal. I’m just saying, that sounds like a really boring season finale. Although, if someone else was going to become Chief, don’t you think we would know at least a few other members of the short list? If I remember correctly, there are only five candidates as of now, so it would stand to reason that we would meet them in order to set up whatever storyline is coming next.
As far as the case of the week goes, it was really enjoyable. Mainly because Monica Keena, on of the most under-used stars of Undeclared, played the creepy fiancee who totally looked like the killer. I love Undeclared, and I especially like it when I can see the female stars (to whom Judd Apatow doesn’t give lead roles in his films) still getting work.
I knew the whole “multiple visits from the cable company” thing was going to be significant, and her creepy man-child building manager was a terribly obvious suspect, But The Closer did an excellent job at obfuscating the actual motives and facts. Plus, they did so without being heavy-handed, which is a feat for a procedural.
We have one episode left this summer, so you have one more chance to answer: is Brenda going to be Chief of Police? Place your bets now.
I have to side with Brenda on this. Again. She said when Raydor first approached her that she did not want to be chief. I don’t think she has ever said outright that she wanted it. She got swept up in the desire for others wanting her to be chief. She didn’t submit her application until the last minute, and part of me thinks she only did it because Pope was arrogant enough to give her his “permission.” She loves police work. I don’t know what the Chief of Police of Los Angeles does, but I’m betting they’re not stomping around crime scenes. That is her passion, and I wouldn’t want to do it either. However, if she does become chief, I think Brenda will give it as much of herself as she dos her current job, so that could be the upcoming scenario.
Raydor wanted her to use a small bag, and I thought she looked hot in that red dress. Wish I could look like that in that red dress.
I missed the pilot episode of The Closer five years ago so I never watched a single episode since. But I do collect TV DVD Boxed sets and now have almost 1500 individual sets on my shelves in my bedroom and hallway. They look like a Best Buy store.
My question on the closer is: Every season(First 5) started in June and stopped in August or September and then finished in December except season 4 that went into February.
I now noticed that all 15 episodes of season 6 will be run off by October, instead of waiting for December again. Is season 6 the last season or did they just change the format and there will be a season 7?
I don’t start watching a series until it is over and I have all the seasons on my shelves. That way when I start watching it, I can go from beginning to end with no interuptions. I am 63 disabled and all I can do anymore is watch TV and use my computer. From what I have heard about the Closer, I am looking forward to watchings the whole series. Hope I won’t be disappointed.

Jeff, The commercials for The Closer are saying that new episodes will return in December, 2010. I think this will be a continuation of season 6. Hope that answers your question.
After this episode I was kinda hoping she got run over by a car on the way there. The whole emotional pause coupled with a very annoying ‘Brenda’ this episode really made me think for a second this was the season finale and she just up and dies…
This whole episode feels different since I usually root for her without a care for most of the other characters but… well, I don’t know, maybe it’s just because I’ve been reading more reviews lately and started analyzing instead of just enjoying it. I hope the finale changes things
I knew I recognized that dress. I just put in the second episode of the first season and there it was. That is one of the dresses Brenda bought when trying to solve the murder of a philandering movie star’s wife.
I didn’t recognize the dress, but I love that the show actually pulled something out of Brenda’s closet. She looked gorgeous in that dress. I would love to have it…well, if I looked that good in it.
I wanna know why they are 5 episodes short this season. All other seasons had 15 episodes but we only got 10 this summer!! What’s up with that? If it really is the highest rated drama on cable, then why cut it short by 5. I am going to missing my Brenda and my favorite (who got hardly any screen time this season) Provenza.
