Just when I thought Ari’s story on Entourage was about to get back on track, along came Amanda Daniels to knock him back down to mildly tolerable. At best.
I’ve always been a fan of Mrs. Ari’s. I think she’s an underutilized character who plays against Ari perfectly, oftentimes providing us with some great moments of drama or comedy. But this season I just want her to recede into the darkness that her lack of a first name has always kept her partially hidden behind. She has become infuriating, inhibiting Ari’s ability to do his job because word broke on news that wasn’t news to her or to anyone else. Should we label her magnanimous for handing her phone to Ari at the bowling alley? Had he been able to manage his job, maybe the explosion at the restaurant never would have happened.
Up until Amanda responded to him I was starting to feel good about Ari again. I thought he’d be spending the rest of his time on the show fighting against Amanda and trying to woo the NFL back — with the revelation that it wasn’t Amanda who leaked the tapes (which doesn’t really clear her of anything in my book), and the NFL execs witnessing Ari’s blowup, neither of those thoughts of mine seem likely to happen. So is Ari’s grand series arc to claw his way to the top only to fall off the other side gloriously?
Nevertheless, cool sightings of Richard Branson and the twins (interestingly, Branson and Mark Cuban, who was also on the episode, have both had their own Apprentice-like shows, The Rebel Billionaire and The Benefactor, respectively), plus Dana Owens, OKA (only known as) Queen Latifah. What was with the “Dana” thing?
Vince is a mess, and this might be the first time in the history of the show that I’m not enjoying seeing him on screen. I do still hope that somehow Peter Berg falls out of the directors slot, because Billy’s the man for the job, but this Sasha thing is enough.
As is Turtle and his tequila stupidity. He does bring out some good guest stars — Miguel Sandoval as Carlos, Ethan Suplee (Randy from My Name is Earl), Mark Cuban — but it doesn’t make sense that he’d be so involved in this tequila enterprise, NOR does it make sense that a businessman like Carlos would turn to a US-based, A-List movie star sponsor without being prepared for the results. His reactions to Turtle make it sound more like the tequila was something Vince came across and fell in love with while in Mexico, with Turtle seizing on it as his way to make bank. But with the actual way this came to be, Carlos’ story doesn’t make any sense.
Is Johnny’s thing with Eric’s secretary Jennie (Janet Montgomery) supposed to seem sweet? Because it feels creepy, from both ends. At first I thought Jennie was just doing as Eric asked, but now it seems like she has some ulterior motive planting herself next to Drama on his “Johnny’s Bananas” project. And, of course, Johnny’s old enough to be her great-grandfather, so there’s that.
I don’t know what else to say. I am loving the guests, and Billy’s awesome … that’s about it.
At this point, I would much rather see how engaged life is treating Eric than to see how married life is crushing Ari. Sloan is now in the role of being around 1/2-2/3 of the episodes, she’s supportive, and gives feedback to Eric. They’ve tried to insert Mrs. Ari into the drama a little too much, imo, and her character hasn’t been as enjoyable as past seasons
Turtle should’ve stolen and sold Vince’s coke. Then, he’d finally be doing something positive, and he’d at least be bringing in some money. With one episode left in the season, the whole tequila thing is in a bad place. Either it’ll get solved a little too quickly (in a logical sense, I don’t think you could get rid of the story quick enough) and we’ll be done with it, or it’ll linger on into next season. Much like a band-aid, I say the quicker the better

I don’t know about more Sloan time, but I had no idea what that scene with the coke was all about. Alex, Turtle, and Billy standing around watching Lloyd hold up a bag of cocaine? What?
I think it was just the official “it’s out there, Vince is a mess.” People had been asking all episode if he was on something, and now all the particulars were confronted with the damning evidence. Having tens of thousands of dollars of it in a huge ziplock bag was a little excessive, but nobody can question whether or not Vince has a serious problem.

“I believe we’re being set up for a humongoid downfall with Vince. Events are being set up right before our very eyes. He’s diggin’ the chicks a bit too much of late. He’s diggin’ the tequila … a bit too much of late. He’s making too many decisions of his own accord without E … Lots of drama! Something’s coming. Something’s coming … and it’s big.”

Well sure, but I know how shy you are, and I didn’t want to focus attention on your psychic abilities knowing how sensitive you are about them. :)

… and that’s greatly appreciated, Aryeh.
*breathes a collective sigh of relief*
One of my toddler son’s favorite episodes of Sesame Street has Adrian Grenier doing a guest spot about seasons. I can’t watch it anymore without feeling repulsed– I just associate it with Vince, Sasha etc– not exactly appropriate Sesame fodder.

Yeah, that’s probably always been a little creepy, but I imagine with the latest goings-on….
Like what Mike said, Vince is obviously lining up for a big downfall by the end of the season. I would not be surprised if he’s either arrested, hurt in a car accident or OD’s on drugs in the finale. He’ll try to recreate the car stunt scene while high on coke or something.
Anyone else catch Turtle having the BALLS to tell Drama to get a job? I near turned the TV off. Like I said before, I don’t know what the show could do with Turtle to make him likable for me at this point.
Also, anyone else catch the blatant product placement for Microsoft XBox Kinect, which isn’t even available in stores yet? It’s what Turtle was using when he was running.

“I would not be surprised if he … OD’s on drugs in the finale.”
Not that I’m promoting such a thing as that, Keith … but … wouldn’t that be a *shocker* of an ending to the show … ???
I just don’t know what happened. I used to love this show. They were an endearing sweet gang of boys looking out for each other and I rooted for their success. Now, they all seem like dirtbags from dirtbag alley. If I watch a full episode, I have to fast forward through the filthy talk and dirty scenes. The show has lost it’s charm. Why should I care about these guys anymore? – They are scum.
Let the fall programming begin!

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard the boys referred to as “sweet” ….
Sweet to eachother. Vince wanted to make his brother feel good, E wanted the best career path for his buddy. Ari felt some kinship for these guys and wanted Vince to do well. LLoyd was a bonafide sweet.
I’ll withdraw the word sweet if you will agree to stop forcing me to watch! :) It’s all your fault!

Whoa there! Me? I realize you keep watching just to keep up with my must-read reviews, but you can always drop out. I’ll think less of you, but it’s always an option. :)
