Make It or Break It – Meet Bambi

When last we saw Make It or Break It, Emily was getting herself arrested for stealing Brian’s medication. So it made sense that last night’s episode picked up with her in jail. But did we need the black and white slow-mo montage of her being processed into the system? Or was that meant to be in contrast to the slow-mo of the show’s theme sequence? Emily was nuts for thinking that Razor could bail her out.

As odd as it was for Kim to have been perfectly fine with Payson kissing Sasha, I did like how her dealing with the situation translated into some nice scenes between her and Payson. That’s the relationship I was looking to see flourish while Payson was injured; better late than never, I suppose.

I’m not sure why Not-Razor needs to continue making cameo appearances … why not let Emily and Razor get together? Or not. Either way, why does Not-Razor have to keep on popping up, first while on his world tour with Green Day (please), and now on his way out to LA to start his new record deal (please again)? The boyfriend drama is already superfluous on the show, so why ratchet it up?

Good for Sasha for bringing Kaylie’s parents in the loop on his concerns about her weight. I’ll say again that the arc here is really boring, despite the seriousness of the illness being portrayed. And are we to believe that, with all of his experience in gymnastics, Sasha wouldn’t have questioned the accuracy of that weigh-in? Obviously this is coming to a head in the finale. Could it be any more predictable?

The election speeches that Kim and Steve gave reminded me of elementary school election assemblies. Very corny. I’m shocked that, despite the bomb that Ellen Beals (Michelle Clunie) dropped, anyone would vote for Steve Tanner before or after his campaign speech. Everyone seems to forget that he took Marty away and left The Rock for dead last season. But sure, why not?

My disinterest in, and distaste for, all that is Lauren continues to grow. I feel no sympathy for her that she never knew her mother, that Steve kept her from seeing her mother, and that her mother died. I know that sounds cold-hearted, and I wouldn’t be saying that were this anyone else, but come on … are we really meant to empathize with her? Ignoring the fact that she didn’t even seem to care (which was an obvious lie), why should we?

Sending that tape to Ellen Beals; getting mad at Summer for trying to be happy (don’t forget, she hated Summer pretty much up until Summer ended things with Steve); destroying her father’s chance at happiness with Chloe (who, by the way, is working who knows where as “Bambi”). I just don’t care.

Whatever steam Make It or Break It picked up last week was certainly not on display last night. Last night’s was an episode more in-line with how the rest of the season has been; at this point I’m just hanging in to close out the season. It’s too bad, but this show went downhill fast.
