After last season of Saturday Night Live was over, I got to wondering what guest stars we might expect in the show’s 36th season. Sometimes the guests we see season-to-season make little sense, though most seem to coincide with a new TV show, movie or musical album. So, with that in mind, I’m going to play a little game with you all.
I’m going to list my picks for what I consider not only good guesses at who might host next season, but I’d actually like to see them host. If you’d like to play from home, go ahead and make your own list in the comments to this post, before anymore guests are announced or scheduled. When the season starts, I’ll do my usual short review with embedded videos each week. If the guest host was on my list, I’ll add points. If not, I’ll lose points. At the end of the season, I’ll deduct points for anyone I mentioned who didn’t appear. Meanwhile, you playing at home can comment with your own tally. Make sense? Alright, here we go:
- Brendan Fraser — He’s got another Journey to the Center of the Earth coming next month, so if he makes an appearance, it’ll be early in the season.
- Steve-O — Jackass 3D opens mid-October. I’m not sure he has the acting chops to cut it, but there’s no denying he’d be an interesting guest on SNL.
- Bruce Willis — It’s a toss-up between Willis and Steve-O, actually, as Willis’s movie, Red, debuts the same day as Jackass. My money is on Bruce.
- Robert Downey Jr. — He’d appear early-November for his next movie, Due Date, though he’s got some other pretty notable movies in the pipeline. Who wouldn’t love to have Downey on SNL?
- Rachel McAdams — Mid-November she has Morning Glory coming to theaters. This is a gamble, actually, but I also wanted to throw a woman into the mix.
- Daniel Radcliffe — I sorta feel like this is a no-brainer. Harry Potter opens November 19, and his appearance would be a huge draw.
- Russell Crowe — It’s sorta between Crowe and Radcliffe, but I’ll go ahead and throw him in here because he has The Next Three Days opening the same day as Harry Potter.
- Denzel Washington — He’s got Unstoppable opening November 12. So, mid-November has a lot of great possibilities.
- Kristen Bell — She has Burlesque opening November 24, and I’d really love to see her host.
- Jeff Bridges — Come on, he has Tron Legacy on December 17 & True Grit on the 25th. This should be a shoe-in. And if he doesn’t do The Dude, he’ll be castrated.
- Ben Stiller — Another great possibility, for Little Fockers opening on December 22.
- Bradley Whitford — He’s got Cabin in the Woods on January 14. I almost threw Joss Whedon in here instead for that reason, but that man can’t act, can he?
Here are a bunch I’ll add for their TV shows premiering or returning:
- Paul Riser
- Chevy Chase
- Amy Poehler
- Nathan Fillion
- Gordon Ramsay
- Summer Glau
- Emily Deschanel
- Ellen DeGeneres
- Kaley Cuoco
- Julie Bowen
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus
- David Spade
And two more possibilities, just because:
- Steve Martin
- LeBron James (OK, not really — he’d get so severely booed off the stage for the decision he made last month to go with Miami)
Yeah, my list is big, so I may be shooting my points down more than I’d like for trying to cover the board too much. So, what are your picks? Remember, you can pick from those I already listed — I even did a bunch of the legwork for you already! In the end, whoever one of you who gets the most points will get some sort of prize (our DVD prize room — yes ROOM — is full of stuff we can work with). Good luck!

Joss Whedon can act, he can act as if he is a decent writer!
Zing!
:-p
Lots of names on that list that would be good. However I don’t care if he has a project to promote or not Justin Timberlake should host.
I have never (and still am not) been a fan of Justin Timberlake’s musical career, but he is hilarious in his SNL gigs. D**k in a box, as a backup dancer for Beyonce, Mother Lover, etc, etc.
Yes, agreed — I’m only a fan of Timberlake’s SNL work and he’s really one of the all-time best hosts.
