It all stands to reason that Skyler would find her way into Walter’s meth business somehow. She loves the thought of having the finer things in life, and she’s not only good with finance, but she’s had a little experience with covering up a few dirty dealings on the books already. What we also know of Skyler, though, is that she’s weak to money. While she had a grade-A reason for not turning in those divorce papers — not being forced to turn on her husband in court — was that really the reason why she couldn’t do so? I say she’s instead afraid of losing hold of a good thing while she has it within reach, and I’m not talking about her relationship with Walter.
If Walter does take Skyler up on her offer to be the “Danny,” running the car wash business for him (love the irony of it being a “wash,” plus the laundromat where Walt cooks meth), you could make a pretty easy guess as to how the rest of the series could go down. Skyler will successfully launder Walt’s money, knowing full well of every penny he’s making. Meanwhile, as she’s getting high on being rich, she gets greedy and figures out the same math Jesse did earlier — that Walter’s cut is measly. She plays the Yoko, gets Walter to dump Gus … you can start putting the pieces together after that.
Oh, and if it isn’t already a slang term I’m privy to, I can so see “Danny” being the new term used for having an inside accomplice in a money laundering operation.
Jesse, on the other hand, is quickly knocking on death’s door. I had a talk with Aaron Paul the other day, and he was obviously pretty cryptic about the rest of the season and the future of his character, but I’ll leave it to you to draw your own conclusions based on the exact conversation, when I post it in the next day or so. Suffice it to say, he’s just digging a bigger hole for himself, and now with him trying to nail down the dealers who gunned down his homey … this doesn’t look good.
Lastly, the meeting between Walter and Gus was just as odd to us as it was to Walter. Nobody’s used to seeing Gus in such a relaxed manner, carrying on with happy conversation. But what is this mistake Gus spoke of that he warns Walt not to make again? Is it in trusting and working with Jesse? With getting back with Skyler and trusting her? Or is it having anything to do again with that car wash? It’s likely the most former of those choices, but you could fit it to other bad decisions Walter’s made in the past — and he has made them.
Incidentally, I want Gus’s kitchen; that thing was sick!
Gus’ well chosen words could be interpreted to mean many things. What mistake did Walt make? Was it Crazy 8 or his cousin? Was it Tuco? Was it Jesse or Sky? Or was it the one thing that the DEA found and traced directly back to Walt only to arrest the wrong man. Skylar said it best, “the devil is in the details.” What happened to the other respirator…
Right before Walt’s discussion with Gus, he reminds Jesse to put on his respirator, whose obviously spaced out because of the insane knowledge just revealed to him, but could it also hint to the one time Walt was caught red handed?
And I also want Gus’ kitchen. dope.
