Look out, America. Here come The Good Guys.
They’ll drive you right back into the 1970s with the music, the car and the mustachioed cheese of Bradley Whitford’s Dan Stark. Along with Colin Hanks’ Jack Bailey, these two detectives are going to make the entry into summer a little brighter and a little better for us all.
Working the Property Theft division of a Dallas police department, Jack Bailey is nothing but drowning in a dead end corner of law enforcement. Forced to be the caretaker of the once-famous-now-washed-up detective Dan Stark, he is looking for anything other than solving petty theft cases. And he gets his wish in the opening episode.
On a call where a burglary yields nothing more than a swiped humidifier, the action suddenly takes a twist and turn, complete with a nice supply of bad guys, blazing guns and chases. Andrew Divoff (Mikhail Bakunin from Lost) plays a terrific villain dubbed “the world’s second-best assassin.” And even Nia Vardalos (Toula Portokalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding) plays the burglary victim and love interest (‘one night stand interest’ is closer to the mark than ‘love interest’) of our mustachioed detective Stark. He even gets to save her in the end. How spiffily 1970s cop show of him.
How to compartmentalize this premiere offering of The Good Guys? Stark probably says it best to his partner Bailey:
“Hey … I’m just sayin’, college boy. There’s a bigger picture here. See … crime is like a sweater: you pull one thread, it’s all connected. Sure … maybe this is just a stolen humid-midifinder, but maybe by the time this is over, we’re going to be dealing with a major crime.”
It’s all in good fun. And I think the only crime to be committed is if you don’t give this series a go. Even CliqueClack‘s own Debbie McDuffee stated The Good Guys “… is exactly what I want from a TV show …”. That right there is a ringing endorsement.

I didn’t catch this but my husband did and he raved….. I’ll have to actually join him next week and see what the deal is. I love 70’s shows no matter what the content…. I was there. *changing diapers mostly but I WAS there*

One of the best new shows on tv! Dan Starks may be my favorite character on tv now b/c he brings me back to my ’70s childhood when cop shows were the norm. I believe it’s supposed to be changing to Friday nights in the fall. I sure hope this doesn’t kill it. Course, if it stayed on Monday nights,it might die anyway due to Monday night football..
