Thank God for V. That’s all I can say. I was really starting to develop a complex, but I have that one shining beacon in the darkness:V. Let me clarify. If you haven’t noticed, just about every show that I cover here at CliqueClack gets canceled. Don’t believe me? Think it can’t be possible? Just look at the evidence over the past couple of years.
It started last season. I wasn’t covering that many shows, but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was one of them. Before I started covering the program, it had a fairly successful, if not strike-shortened, first season, which warranted a second season on the air. I start reviewing the show and what do you know? The ratings take a nosedive, the show is moved into the Friday death slot and is canceled at the end of the season. It wasn’t the show’s fault, if anything the quality improved in the second season.
Then we moved on to this season. One of the shows I was most excited about was FlashForward. I decided early on that I was going to cover it for the site, figuring that it was going to be right up my alley. The pilot was great, but we all know what happened after that. Word broke last week that the show would not be coming back for a second season, and with the ratings dipping below the competition on The CW, it wasn’t really a surprise.
Heroes had done just fine for three seasons before I started covering it. Certainly, the quality had declined greatly from the first season, but with the rest of the stinkers on NBC, there was still hope that it would come back for a fifth season to wrap things up. Alas, I covered it, so that means one thing: it’s dead as a doornail.
Is that not enough proof for you? Well, how about Damages? It was trucking along just fine until I started covering it this season. I’m still holding out hope that the rumored deal with DirecTV will come through, rescuing the show for at least another season, but with my track record, the writing may be on the wall.
Then, there is Parenthood. “But Parenthood was renewed!” you say. Indeed, it was. Would you like to know why? Because I stopped covering it! That’s right, as soon as I stopped reviewing the show, having dropped it from my viewing schedule, the ratings built and NBC brought it back for a second season.
I’ve even been known to cover certain episodes of Scrubs and Better Off Ted. Their fate? Well, they were both canceled too.
Again, thank God for V. For a little while there, I really thought that ABC was going to give the sci-fi adventure show the axe along with FlashForward, and I would have been batting zero. At least I have that to cling to. Like I said, I’m really starting to believe that I’m cursed. So if there is any show you’ve had enough of and you want it canceled, just let me know … for I am Bob, destroyer of shows.
Admit it. You ruined Lost too ;-))
You ruined Lost for yourself, sir. There are plenty of us who still love it.
Hehe :-)
See. Can’t be that bad then, can it? :-)
Well then … you can say things are looking up currently. Right?
Just in case, however, can I make the request you stay in your neck of the woods while viewing shows? As much as I sympathize with your plight – and as much that I am not the superstitious sort – I wouldn’t want any of your ‘funk’ to rub off. (I mean … in the event you have any funk that rubs off. Not that I’m saying you do. Have funk, I mean.)
It can’t hurt to put a request in, y’know. Just in case. Nothing personal. Still love ya …..
If you want to test your curse out I have a list of reality shows to use. Lets start with Jersey Shore when it comes back.
If I had to watch that swill I would be Bob, destroyer of self.
Oh, Bob. I’ve blamed you all along. Didn’t 30 Rock get renewed as well in spite of your best efforts?
Could you see fit to free me from having to continue to watch Smallville and Chuck, please?
Nine out of ten reality shows. Anything that ends with ‘ Housewives ‘ or starts with ‘ Real ‘.
Miami Medical, Hawthorne, and Cougar Town round out my list.
