I apologize for missing last week’s Gossip Girl. I was devastated that my trust in William van der Woodsen has been so obviously misplaced. As Kona once said, it is a whole lot easier if you just plain don’t trust any new character, ever, on this show. Not that you can really trust the original cast members, as both Serena and Jenny have had a questionable time this year. Chuck and Blair, though, can always be counted on to be awesomely delicious.
Serena is such a dupe, it’s sad. She’s blinded by the idea of having her real family (her emphasis, not mine) back together. You can certainly see that she’s just looking out for her mother, but her misplaced trust is so much more sad than mine because, well, she’s a character in this story and I’m just hanging out. Considering this season included an affair with a politician and “dropping out” of college, she should just try to erase the whole year from her memory, as aiding and abetting her father’s escape will make the perfect bookend to a ridiculous year.
Jenny is good. Oh, wait, no … she’s bad. Nope, she’s good again. I’ve said my piece on Little J last week, but I’ll reiterate. She’s been plain boring all year long … nay, all series long. Her self-serving role as a double agent in Operation Holland Tunnel was ridiculous. The surprise was her actually owning up to it after-the-fact. And as harsh as her father’s words were to her, I think it is Eric’s that will sting longer. One can only hope that her now likely departure — I’m betting to her mother’s — will last as long as possible.
There’s something to be said when the entire Gossip Girl clan sets out on the same mission, usually at the end of each season. The first two times it included Georgina, once as friend and once as foe, but this year it was not to be. At least not this week. But hey, they have Dan, right? He actually did pretty well in his role in the game, helping Serena in the end, though one wonders (or fears, actually) where that is heading. With the season finale looming next week, you know the drama is about to be turned up to eleven.
