Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Season 8: Issue #33
Can you believe we’re 33 issues into this thing? This week marked the arrival of the highly anticipated “big bad” reveal for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season eight comic. The news of who the mysterious Twilight is was spoiled weeks ago by Dark Horse themselves, probably because they just couldn’t contain their excitement over it anymore. I won’t repeat the spoiler here, but chances are if you figure out how secretive they’re being about the whole thing, you might be able to figure it out on your own.
This is one case where I really wish I hadn’t read a spoiler. The reveal in this issue would have hit me a lot more had I not known about it. That’s pretty much the same case for any spoiler, really, but I’ve had big “oooo!” moments before, when reading spoilers, that didn’t hurt the actual reveal for me. Maybe this time it hurt because it was outright confirmed by the writers themselves?
In any case, for me, this issue marked the climax of the season, and things are likely going to tumble quickly toward the finale from here on out.
DC’s Human Target: Issue #1
No, this isn’t the old comic book series. This one came to me with a copy of next week’s episode screener DVD for FOX’s Human Target, and as you can see from the image to the right, it’s fully based on the TV series. It’s got Chance, Winston and Guerrero, just as you’d imagine them in the show. Veteran comic book writer and editor Len Wein wrote the stories for this issue, and by God he nailed the intricacies of the characters down. The first issue has two stories, one that will likely wind up as part one of the six-issue series, and one short, complete one.
If you’re a fan of FOX’s Human Target, pick this up when you see it at your local comic shop. So far I’m impressed and definitely looking forward to seeing how the story plays out.

By the way I really like the new layout. I know I knew it before but the way it came out is really good.
I thought about those two page articles but I guess there’s no good solution for that problem. I guess you can’t have both short articles and have them across two pages. The teasers in bold were also a step forward. I totally agree with dropping the categories and all the other stuff on the right for ad space, that was a good idea. Strangely enough I sometimes only get black areas instead of ads… don’t know why.
Anyway, I hate you for having that HT comic book :-)

I dropped the Buffy comic at the end of the previous story arc. It just seemed ridiculous once they dropped the smaller stories and went full speed into the Twilight main arc for the season. But perhaps I’m caught between the life-and-death seriousness and the coming-of-age satire just as I was in the last three seasons of the television series. Does anyone think the comic storyline is better now than it was a year ago (I was unspoiled, but unsurprised by the Big Bad reveal)?
