Since Psych returned in January the amount of quotes and pop culture references has varied each week. This time, the writers of the series decided to load up on both of these items to the point of overflowing. Could be due to the lack of material in the last episodes. Or, maybe they loaded up because there are only three episodes left in the season. Either way, it made for some very funny moments in a solid installment.
Here are the quotes, pop references, and pineapple findings from this week’s program (Thanks to Deb McDuffee for some of the quotes).
“First of all, you’ve got to stop using that, ‘I’m not falling for no banana in my tailpipe’ voice when you’re imitating a white person.” — Shawn to Gus, in a reference to Eddie Murphy’s character in Beverly Hills Cop.

Psych was great once again (nice to see Bob from ReGenesis getting some work in another lab)
Also… what’s with the ridiculously short page 1s (and long page 2s) and the new ugly design? The old one was smart and clear this is just a backwards step. Did someone turn on the blur filter for the fonts in the images?
You know… Mr. Dobalina wants to quit…
I really wonder how many people under 30 can really enjoy Psych. Then again I think they are just putting one reference after another without any real “beats” in between… I mean it’s all so fast and especially the “squirrel with foam around his mouth” – I mean Arnie doesn’t even react to Shawn saying that…
Anyway, I liked this episode, don’t ask me why…
Disclaimer: I know his name is not Artie on the show. It’s a reference. And I know it’s not “wants to quit” – I was in 8th grade when the song came out and I am german, that’s why I wrote it that way :-)
“Who are you, Michael Vick?” That’s all I needed to enjoy.
As for the other pop references, I find that most of them are lost on even early 30 somethings. Culturally, Shawn and Gus are older than they actually are. Must come from watching reruns as children. Yes, I’m actually pondering how two young guys get all the references that are in the script. Sheesh.
