First of all, was it just me, or did Bear McCreary‘s music seem to ring out more prominently in this episode than the past couple? Maybe I’m just noticing his stuff a lot more lately, now that I’ve taken up watching old T:TSCC episodes. Sorry, didn’t mean to open that old wound.
So, Amanda Graystone. I wonder how many people who haven’t seen this episode yet think I spoiled the hell out of it with that title, only to really shock the frak out of them. So, sorry about that. But I do think Amanda is not long for this world … er … Caprica. Are there any more mistakes she can make to royally screw up Daniel’s life and livelihood?
My favorite stunt of Amanda’s in this episode was how she suggests to Daniel to tell the public it’s “a sad time for them and they need to process.” Yeah, that’ll go over real well after that nutcase speech you made in front of the world last week.
Amanda being taken away from Daniel would also be a step in the direction of the potential Blow the Hatch moment I mentioned not long ago. Not only have I not warmed up to Amanda Graystone at all, but I haven’t warmed to the current Bill Adama, either. So would Amanda’s death instigate a retaliation from Daniel, to take away the one person Joseph has left?
I find it somewhat fascinating how the show combines old and new technology and styles. The old film-reel camera. The fedora on Joseph Adama. It sort of hearkens back to Firefly in way, with their old-west-like styles combined with advanced tech.
It’s really disturbing how Clarice has a little army of kids to do her dirty work for her. And then she has an army at home that are basically sex slaves! When word gets out that she’s behind what happened (and it’s likely going to happen, based on what we saw of the other kids), there’s going to be a regular Caprican lynching.
Two last things to note. I’m surprised the holoband is making such a forefront appearance, when we never heard about it on BSG. I wonder if that’s to say that holobands will be completely wiped from existence soon. Also, did you catch the original Battlestar Galactica series theme music as the tech was searching for dance music? Nice touch.
Don’t worry, you didn’t spoiler the show for anyone. All 16 viewers watch it live. :-p
Impetuous Amanda, Impetuous Zoe, where did Zoe get her impetuous behaviour from?
I do enjoy Amanda, but I think it will move the story along when, and I do mean when, something happens to her.
Grandma Bonejacks! What a frightening woman.
The Sarno interview was really well done.
Caught the colonial anthem. Nice. The dance sequence was interesting.
I read a headline that Syfy was totally behind Caprica for the long haul. Have not had a chance to read the entire thing, but I hope it’s true!
Oh yes, forgot to say that I really heard Bear’s work tonight too, when the Graystone’s were in bed. The piano made me think of Someone to Watch Over Me.
And, I guess we are to assume that holobands are found to rot brains (or somesuch) and that they are summarily shunned by the masses at some point soon.
since the holoband seems to be the precursor to cylon projection, and with Daniel Greystone giving up the fee that his company charges for holoband space, thereby taking out the profit motive for hacking the holoband, he’ll look for some other way for it to be profitable. When he realizes that holoband and Zoe’s avatar are the magic ingrediants for bringing the cylon to life, he’ll incorporate a version of the holoband tech and avatars into the cylons. The reason there were no holobands on BSG? Because there were no networked computers on board the Galactica.
Yep, you spoiled me. I was about to watch this episode in the next two hours. Thank you very much.
“I wonder how many people who haven’t seen this episode yet think I spoiled the hell out of it with that title, ”
tut
No need to “tut” there. It still spoiled the enjoyment of us that hadn’t watched it. I don’t wanna spend an episode trying to work out when someone’s dying – and when I get that spoiler, I don’t go on and read the article to find out how it happened. So yeh nice job with the idiotic article title.
Also, she isn’t that bad. Get rid of the Adama’s then we’ll talk.
*POST AUTHOR*
So you watched the episode and my title still spoiled it?
Didn’t spoil the storyline but certainly my enjoyment of it.
Have to agree with you about the Adamas. In the first episode, I didn’t despise the Mr. But he’s nothing but a two bit thug, and I cannot stand him or the family. Threw me a bit to dislike that storyline so much, as I originally expected to dislike the Greystones.
I’m right with you. The Adamas are tiresome.
Also, the BSG theme music wasn’t a nice touch – it was a clichĂ© that worked well on the last BSG episode, but now its just a case of “YES WE GET ITS THE BSG THEME”. Bear’s music makes me yawn now. Its either drums or a simple piano thing… right?
Like the Dexter spoiler, this is one you really can’t win. It’s more than expiated by name-dropping TSCC in your opening paragraph, though.
Though many of the characters on Caprica deserve death, the only ones I’d like to see on the ends of Sam’s stilettos are Sister Clarice and Willy’s grandmother, followed by the rest of the monotheistic fundamentalists. Amanda’s not even near the top of the list, yet.
I really can’t fathom why the other spouses in the group marriage continue to put up with Clarice’s selfishness and lack of consideration. Maybe she’s the primary breadwinner? And although the morning bed scene was supposed to be sexy or thought-provoking, the image of the men and women awkwardly climbing over one another so everyone could kiss everyone provoked laughter more than anything else. If it was that bad with four people, imagine the logistical nightmare of six or eight spouses.
Damn, that picture makes it look like the NBC peacock is directly behind Sarno. Nice screen cap.
haha she did jump.
thx god she did it
the amanda character was the most boring and disturbing in one person
i wont miss her
i hope she did not survive the jump
