Dear Jared Padalecki,
News of your recent engagement to former Supernatural co-star Genevieve Cortese, who played Ruby #2, brings mixed feelings to this Supernatural fan. I want to give you my blessing, I really do, but are you sure you’re doing this for the right reasons?
We know of your breakup with ex-wish demon Sandra McCoy in 2008. That’s not a good track record with co-stars, Jared. I agree that she wasn’t the right woman for you, but what’s with this demon fixation? In the words of Dean Winchester, “First it’s Madison, then Ruby, now Kara. What is it with you banging monsters?” Maybe a nice girl, whose eyes don’t get all black and cloudy, Jared?
Just because Jensen Ackles, your co-star and best friend got engaged back in November doesn’t mean that you need to also. If Jensen jumped off a bridge, would you do it? Maybe you’re feeling all sad and alone now that your best friend is committed to another, but don’t let the Wincest get the best of you. Single is OK, Jared. Look at all the cool kids who are still single: George Clooney (who doesn’t want to be like Clooney?), Matthew McConaughey (OK, perhaps not the best example….), even Taylor Lautner is single, and arguably cooler than even a vampire these days. Just think about it.
If I dare say it, you picked the wrong Ruby. We missed the cute Katie Cassidy when Ruby jumped into Genevieve Cortese’s body. She was spunky and sweet, not all broody and bitchy like Ruby #2. Have you checked to see if Katie would be up for an engagement? It may not be too late….
Dude, you’re only 27 — do you really need to rush this? I only ask the question because I hate to see you throw your young and promising life away on the wrong demon woman. Of course I’ll give you my blessing if you really see this as the permanent relationship of your dreams. Heck, even though I think Chris O’Donnell should have held out for me, his marriage seemed to be a good choice in the long run, so who am I to say? It’s a good thing I don’t have a younger, single sister or I’d really be putting up a stink about this, but in the end, all I can say is congratulations and I wish you well.
That is, if you’ve really thought about it. So think about it. She’s evil, Jared….
Sincerely,
Debbie, a well-meaning fan, who’s not nearly old enough to be your mother yet felt compelled to write to you with this advice anyway.
“We missed the cute Katie Cassidy when Ruby jumped into Genevieve Cortese’s body.” — quoted for truth…
I agree with this, though my logic pretty much boils down to, “that chick is a godawful bad actress.”
Preach it, sister!
Jared got engaged a week after Jensen did (during TG). So the need to follow Jensen was really URGENT.
I don’t know, these sudden engagements sound more like cover-ups, if rumors (and fan fiction) are to be believed. :-)
And I agree. Katie Cassidy was THE BEST Ruby, and the only reason to watch Melrose Place.
Wasn’t he just engaged LAST YEAR to another co-star of his? Then he breaks it off and moves on to the next co-star? What’s up with that?
I’ve never been to this site before – found this in a Google alert, but seriously people. Like any of us know Jared or Gen. Neither Jared nor Sam are marrying Ruby for crap’s sake. Gen isn’t a demon – though I agree she’s one of the most boring actresses I’ve ever seen.
He and Sandy broke up almost 2 years ago and it was rumored he dated his F13 co-star. That’s probably all it was, but who else is he going to date if not co-stars? He’s an actor and most of the people he meets are in show business.
Some fans make me question the definition of the word.

What I question is the sense of humor of people who found this post through a Google alert…. ;-)
Uh, burn! ;-)
But remember Deb, even if he weren’t engaged it would be too creepy ;-))
wow, that is rude.
I agree that this feels a little rushed and I also agree with the last reply that all of the people he meets are in show business(and really girls, what celebrity has ever dated a fan?), but if this is what Jared wants, it’s what he shall have, whether the fan girls like it or not. It may not work out between them, but who knows, it just might! Please leave Jared’s happiness up to him. Only Jared knows what is right for him and after Sandy broke his heart, all I want is for him to be happy.
Congratulations Jared and Gen, I wish you nothing but the best!
A friend linked me here. And wow, what an utterly immature and ridiculous article! Not only does the poster have a hard time separating the “actors” from their “characters” (as in Jared is not engaged to Ruby), it makes assumptions on people’s personal lives that you know nothing about. These people aren’t your BFFs for you to know that ‘Sandy wasn’t the right woman’ or that at the very mature age of 27 ‘Jared doesn’t know what he’s doing’. Hatred for the Ruby character or opinions on the acting skills of the lady have no bearing on the real person and whether Jared truly loves that real person. Neither should your preference over Katie’s acting skills, who proved herself after Supernatural but as Ruby #1 was almost just as bad. Just because you think Katie was a better Ruby doesn’t mean that Katie, the real person, has those qualities that would make Jared fall in love with her. THIS FANDOM REALLY NEEDS TO GROW UP, start using those brains you were born with, and stop acting like spoiled, entitled little brats for a change.

Again, with the commenter sense of humor disorder … I’m kidding, people! There’s nothing in your comment that even relates to my article, just makes it obvious that you aren’t using the part of your brain where skills on interpreting the facetious are housed.
If people found this thru a Google alert (as did Stella above), then perhaps they are visiting for the first time and they are not familiar with this website, IF it is meant to be humorous. There is really no logic to correlate questioning someone’s sense of humor to finding this thru an alert. My sense of humor is quite intact, and has no problem activating at the proper times. Clearly this wasn’t one of them. Perhaps the article writer needs some lessons on how to properly impart sarcasm through the written word when voice inflections and intonations are missing. Because if the writer was kidding, the writer certainly did not convey that notion. At least not in this article.
Guys, do you seriously need emoticons and winky-eyes to let on that she was just having some fun with this post? If you don’t get this kind of humor, please — for the love of God — stay away from theonion.com! You will be REALLY angry about their way of posting.
Keep the comments coming, though. The way everyone’s taking this post so seriously is actually funnier than the post itself! Well, in a weird sorta way….
Oh, for pity’s sake. Do you really think Jared is incapable of making his OWN decisions? Take off the tin hat, pal. Jared and Jensen are separate people who even have separate friends. What Jared does is what Jared wants, and not because Jensen did it first. If you actually paid attention to all the interviews over the years, you’d maybe realize that Jared is actually the more forceful and stubborn of the two, so playing Sam to Jensen’s Dean is hardly what he’s going to do in his real life.
You might try separating the actress from the role she played, too. It’s an amazingly healthy thing to do.
Ta.
P.S.
If this *was* meant to be funny, the condescending tone fails to convey that. Nor do the head-bobbing replies that follow.
Way to stir it up, Deb! You go, girl. :)
Well, I thought it was funny.
Gosh, that was so funny, I forgot to laugh. If this article is meant to skewer the idiot portion of the Supernatural fandom who has, in all seriousness, responded with similar ‘advice’ (see E!Online article), then I suppose it succeeds at that – but at the expense of Jared and Genevieve, who by all accounts are quite nice people. So bravo to you. (That ‘bravo’ was sarcasm – just want to make sure everybody reading here ‘gets’ that.)
If this was meant to be a joke, then you went about it in a seriously childish way. I did not, in fact, find this through google alert, but from a friend in a Supernatural email group.
It all goes to prove that the written word can be as misconstrued as the spoken word, maybe even more so.
Way to offend Supernatural fans!!
Hey Debbie,
I thought the post was funny. I’ve actually enjoyed all of your posts since you started from the beginning with the Virgin Diaries. I am however completely offended by the fact that you think black and cloudy eyes are a sign of evil – for me, that’s just a sign that Saturday night kicked ass.
Chris, perhaps you need some lessons on how to properly impart intelligence through the written word, cuz you suck at it!
Obviously you are someone who can’t distinguish between the characters (Ruby and demons) and the actors. FYI, Sandy and Jared met long before SPN ever aired and they grew in different directions, after a long longdistance relationship. Jared is obviously someone to whom family means a great deal, and he’s a mature 27, so I see no problem with him getting married at that age. But hey! no problem with your letter: you let off steam, entertained some and Jared will never read it anyway. :)
Listen up people…even if whats-her-face was kidding, it doesn’t change the fact that she made several insulting comments to this actors fiance’ and if I were mr. Padalecki, I would be pissed. Watch the show and enjoy it. Stop slinging mud, k? Oh and one more thing, do any of you know these people personally? Probably not. Didn’t we stop playing, “Let’s pretend” in grade school? Disturbing
So glad you sling mud in Debbie’s direction. I suppose you know her personally then, right?
I suggest you return to reading fanfiction and stroking your army of kittens.
