When it comes to recurring characters on The Big Bang Theory, I’d rather see more of Leonard’s mother than Barry Kripke. I realize it costs more to fly her in from New Jersey, but it’s well worth the price. Yes, tonight was the return of Christine Baranski in the role of Leonard’s super-prim, super-snooty, super-psychologist mom. They couldn’t have gotten a better actress to play the character.
She started out all proper and better than anyone. Since it was the Christmas episode, she flew in to visit not knowing that Penny and Leonard are an um … item. (I still don’t care for that, but the show doesn’t listen to me!) However, it worked for the storyline tonight and I didn’t have to see them sharing a bed.
It seems to me that Sheldon’s religious zealot mother should really be replaced by Leonard’s mom. But that would make tonight’s big moment just a touch too weird. And, it was weird enough on its own. Y’see, it’s almost as if Sheldon and Leonard’s mother are kindred spirits. Neither relate to most other humans and the quirks which make up “normal” people. But I was almost as shocked as Leonard was that they were corresponding all along — Sheldon knew Leonard’s dog died, his parents are getting divorced, and even sent a present to his brother for his wedding. Yikes!
Of course, Leonard wouldn’t have told his mother about Penny because she’s just a lowly waitress at the Cheesecake Factory. But Penny did the right thing. She got Leonard’s mom drunk. Yep, liquor the ol’ mom up, that’s the ticket. We find that she has an inner-cougar agog at a busboy, has been in charge of her own orgasms since 1982 (yikes!), and she’s just a wild kind of gal. Who woulda thunk it?
The best thing other than her latching lips with Sheldon was the line about Raj and Wolowitz and their latent homosexual tendencies. There’s been so much about that hint-wise that I think we are due for some sort of revelation. I know Howard is a womanizer, but there’s definitely some kind of vibes between Raj and him. There really is.
All in all, I rank this episode right up there — lots of good lines and it made me chuckle. How about you?

Sheldon will not be the same for me after that
Sad to say this, but season 3 of Bang has just not worked for me. Maybe Sheldon is such an offthewall character that it is by now hard to write new stuff for him each week, or maybe they are trying to outdo 2.5 Men in dirty dialogue. IMO something is wrong this season.
