The best part about Cougar Town is not Jules and her dating problems. Don’t get me wrong, we get some great lines because of it — “I had to sex away his tears” — but I’m really digging the men on this show. OK wait, the sucking on chocolate for three seconds was pretty classic too. Back to the men….
I started off adoring Travis and the relationship he has with his mom. Then, I appreciated Grayson for all that he was: cold yet sensitive, snarky and unavailable. “Please stop coming to my bar.” That pretty much sums it up.
Tonight, Bobby stole the show for me, with his honesty, the way he can just be who he is without worrying about what other people think, and the way he is clearly still in love with Jules.
The dude had a yard sale in the parking lot where his land boat is parked. I can’t even believe I just wrote that sentence. Then he won a golf game using kiddie clubs. We can’t forget that he drives a golf cart and mows the lawn at Travis’ school. Yep, Bobby is a character, to say the least. Tonight, though, we saw beyond the buffoon to his inner feelings, and it was just right. Still funny, with him pretending he’s still married to Jules, and tender with their talk at the end. Finishing it off with the shot of the ring was perfect. Not overly sappy but giving Bobby some depth of character.
So keep giving us lots of Travis, Grayson and Bobby. And an honorable mention to Andy, Bobby’s very public stalker.
