Defying Gravity – They have been changed for good

Crew of Antares goes to meet Beta

Mike Goss is a total ass, and Ted Shaw completely surprised me. That one statement pretty much sums up my entire opinion of this week’s Defying Gravity. Goss’s stunt to protect the integrity of their subterfuge was way over the line. Shaw’s decision to take the crew down to Pod 4 will change the dynamic in two very big ways.

Sure, now the crew knows about Beta. Not surprisingly, they now know more than us (those bastards!). I didn’t think that this revelation would happen so soon … but then again, there are only five episodes left this season — and yes, I say season, because I have faith stupidity. Where do these guys go from here now? Well, the short answer is that we have no fraking clue, because as we don’t know Beta’s motivations, we can’t really know what he’ll have them do.

And one by-product of Shaw’s decision is the complete alienation of Mission Control. The commander ignored direction from Houston like it was his job. I would argue that, by virtue of Beta making the crew change, it is his job, because I have serious doubts that Rollie would be the type of guy to roll the hard six and make a decision independent from Mission Control. Shaw is that type of guy, but I wonder how his taking a stand here is just the beginning. No, I don’t suspect they’ll be cutting the radios off or anything, but I do think we’ll continue to see little bits of insubordination for now. But at some point, Beta is going to overtly take over.

Other Stuff:

  • I know I said it at the beginning, but it’s worth repeating: Mike Goss is an absolute jackass
  • The fire alarm in the training segment reminded me quite a bit of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Coming of Age,” except here, blind obedience was the “right” course of action, which is pretty much idiotic
  • In fact, all of the training elements just seemed all kinds of wrong
  • Ajay supplying Donner with intel, and then helping the crew by not helping Goss, was a cool touch
  • Beta says tomatoes, and I say “a fractal of beer would have killed you?”
  • Really thought Donner would go after Zoe (and Jen), and was surprised he ended up in the shelter
  • Eve…. The more we learn about her, the less and less I trust her
  • Eve + Oil Company + Beta = What?

I know alot of people have been complaining about the show and its lack of authentic physics and such but I really like the spin of the show and where they’re leading this.

I really hate that the show tonite ended on a cliffhanger…

Tomatoes, forbidden fruit….?

Rollie, hard six (I gotcha).

Jen being deceptive towards Zoe during the panic, leads me to believe she was packing up more than the bunny. (Rollie’s sperm)

I’m very excited for the next episode!

A good ep. So we have “Beta” are we expecting an “Alpha” too?

It’s starting to be intersting, I hope its not too late tho.

Wasn’t that the last episode? If I remember right ABC canceled the show. Hopefully it will continue on Hulu or something, but I doubt it for some reason.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure ABC cut this nugget loose just like Fox did with Virtuality.

Nick: There are a couple of reports out there that have ABC having canceled the show, but ABC hasn’t yet confirmed.

Which pretty much means it has happened, ABC just isn’t admitting it yet.

I know, I know. It’s a lost cause. But I sure wish a fledgling network or cable channel would pick this one up. I love love love this show. And you’re saying there were 5 other episodes recorded? So maybe I can get them from the trusty Canadians via torrents? Will do.

ABC isn’t going to air it anymore, but it’s playing internationally so we should still be able to find new episodes on the internets.

ok to the dude who wrote the post. ITS JUST A SHOW. your calling a character of a show an ass like he has a choice in the matter. he didnt write the script he’s just acting.

September 15, 2009 at 11:42 PM

That’s why he said Goss not Airlie.
Dorv did you know that Defying Gravity is not real? ;)
