What I want to see in Heroes season 4

Heroes

Honestly, at this point I’m not sure why I’m even going to be giving season four of Heroes a chance. I’ve been a bit frustrated with the show since it’s stellar first season. Season two saw a big drop off in quality from the first, in my opinion. Then, show runner Tim Kring promised the viewers that season three was going to fix all the mistakes of season two. It didn’t.

Frankly, at this point I almost feel like I’m picking on the biggest nerd in school. Heroes turned into the popular target of ridicule and second guessing last season, and I’m not trying to pile it on with this post. Instead, I want to put out some ideas and hopes for season four, to get the show back to what all us fans know it has the potential to be.

Anyway, here is a list of some things that I would love to see in the upcoming season of Heroes:

  • No more time travel: For the love of everything good on this Earth, please spare us anymore time travel plot lines. I know that it is part of Hiro’s powers, but it really doesn’t matter. Heroes has gone to that well so many times, I would love it if they avoided it this year.
  • No more fake-out deaths: I’m not calling for the show to knock off any characters (though, I wouldn’t be upset with a thinning of the herd), but I am begging for the fake deaths to stop. You know what I mean: when a character appears dead, but then an episode later, or a scene later sometimes, miraculously turns out to be alive (remember it happened with Claire, Sylar, Noah, Daphne, Tracy, Maya, etc). Cut that out.
  • Less Sylar: Sylar was an awesome villain for season one, and I didn’t want to see the end of him at the time. Now, however, I think he has worn out his welcome. He went from being a totally scary serial killer to a lost puppy looking for his daddy. Perhaps the events at the end of last season (Nathan’s death, and Sylar’s mind and body transformation into Nathan) will spell an end to Sylar.
  • A new, dynamic super villain: Let’s take a year or two and take our focus off Sylar. Some of the best episodes last year were the ones that focused on Eric Doyle (the puppet man). Great villains are a dime a dozen. All you need is a cool power, a little madness, and a cheap motivation to take over the world — the rest is gravy. I’d love to see some new bad guys to face off against our Heroes, instead of watching them face off against each other, or themselves.
  • Claire and Noah need to stop bickering: Seriously how many times can they lie to each other and then get pissed off? It’s growing old and it’s getting frustrating. Hopefully with Claire off at college, this tired plot device will fade into the past.
  • More working together: With so many characters traveling different paths, the show can feel really unfocused at times. I would love to see more characters interacting with each other instead of random guest stars. For crying out loud there are enough characters on this show without bringing in guests.
  • A little stability in super powers: Hiro has powers one minute, and the next minute he doesn’t. All of a sudden Mohinder goes from normal guy, to becoming-a-bug guy, to super-strength guy. Nikki becomes Jessica becomes Tracy, all with different powers. Peter has powers one day, no powers the next. Egads, Heroes, let’s have a little stability, please.
  • Don’t try to be deep: In the beginning of last season (the “Villains” chapter) I think the show was trying to be a little too meaningful, beating us over the head with the idea that there is a hero and a villain inside everyone. What it actually amounted to was a bunch of characters swapping allegiances more often than underpants. Please, just keep it simple. This is a show full of people with superpowers — it should be fun!

Well, I don’t know if we’re going to see any of these things in the new season, but I’m going to be tuning in to find out. What are you looking for from season four?

All we need to see…. The final episode.

Ouch. ;o)

For some reason, I keep giving this show second, third, and fourth chances. It has so much potential to be good.

I guess you have more will power than I do. I was on the verge of giving up during season 2, but kept watching it. Season 3 I had to force myself to keep watching it. Then after Kristen Bell was killed off I just decided “screw it” and gave up. Tried again when it came back from hiatus and after 2 episodes I realized I just didn’t like the show anymore.

I’m sick of giving lousy superhero shows third chances (I’m looking at you too Smallville!) only to be let down.

Oreo: Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that there aren’t some of us out there that enjoy (the absurdity of) it still. I know a lot of people that have seen their final episode … Haven’t you?

Bob: I don’t mind the time travel nearly as much as other, as long as it its not the driving force of the main plot. What I want out of Hiro is some growth.

Yeah, I think that’s why I was so into Sylar being a “good” guy, because I was tiring of him as an “evil” one.

I didn’t like “The Puppet Man” in the least, but I do agree with you that some interesting villains would be nice.

I think the powers switching was in response to fan reaction, so if they’ve gotten things to where things are more balanced, by all means, let them stablize.

No fake out death is probably where we agree the most, but I’m ok with some additional real deaths (Tracy, Peter, Mohinder, I’m looking at you).

Killing off some of the original characters instead of only wasting the new hires would be a plus. It’s hard to count deaths like Nikki or Nathan when the actors are still series regulars. Anyone except HRG could die and I wouldn’t mind at this point.

I don’t actually care whether or not they introduce more villains as long as they make the “heroes” likable again.

I think some villains would go a long way in that respect. It would be something for the Heroes to focus on instead of whining to each other and feeling bad for themselves.
