The rebellion was squashed. Ellen and Boomer made a grandiose return. Saul lost his lil’ Cylon baby. Those were the highlights of my last diary entry. Now, I’m nearing the end of this long and winding cherry-popping experience. Ronny Moore is running out of chapters to succinctly wrap up his epic tale of humanity’s last parade. There are plenty of loose ends to tie and vexing questions to answer. Will it all make sense? Probably not. Will I be satisfied? Uh … my fingers are crossed, but I’m feeling some bad vibes in the air.
Galactica is falling to pieces. The support beams are cracked and the Cylon goop doesn’t appear to be helping much. On top of the structural damage, the ship’s FTL drive is about to take a dump. That can’t be good. Something has to give here. It’s apparent this old bucket of bolts ain’t gonna last much longer. They better find a habitable environment posthaste.
Chief and Boomer’s relationship has always fascinated me. Chief’s always loved her, but I’ve never been certain if his feelings were reciprocated. For all the heinous shit she’s done, I think her Cylon projections were quite revealing. The quaint family life she conjured with Chief spoke louder than her actions. I have to admit, it was a little sad to see the life they would never share together.
However, Chief busting Boomer out of the brig was just plain dumb. When did she ever not have an ulterior motive? Man, that love shit is some powerful stuff. I’m not saying I wouldn’t have done the same thing for the chick of my dreams, but Chief had to know there was something up her sleeve. He’s a frakkin’ Cylon for Pete’s sake! Didn’t he sense Boomer wanted Hera?
So, Starbuck met her estranged father. The scenes between the two were intense and poignant. Starbuck is such a stand out character, I find it difficult not to care about her more than everyone else. The fact that she knew the damn “Watchtower” song made perfect sense. She’s the key. The song is key. They go together like peas and carrots. I have no idea what it all means, but it will cleared up, right?
“Islanded in a Stream of Stars”
Did they really name an episode after that annoying Kenny Rodgers/Dolly Parton duet, “Islands in the Stream?” Holy shit. Or was Ernest Hemingway’s 1970 novel the inspiration? Maybe it’s neither. Honestly, I don’t give a shit. I just found the episode moniker bothersome.
Ellen tells the powers that be about the Cylon Colony. Hmm. Me doth surmise a final episode confrontation is coming. The Cylons are all about saving Hera from the evil Cavil; Bill and Lee and Saul aren’t so sure. C’mon Admiral. What the hell are you going to do, float around in space another four years on a dying ship? You got people and machines getting blown out of holes. Needless to say, Bill’s decision to abandon Galactica was the only choice.
Oh, great … Gaius is back. Starbuck confides her secret to him. She had to know he’d blab his findings all over the ship. Seems like Kara is lookin’ for some closure. Angel, devil, ghost, zombie — might as well get it all out in the open. Of course, Gaius positioned her as proof of the afterlife. Anything to further his self-serving religious poppycock.
Then there is poor, poor Anders. They turned him into a Hybrid. He did reaffirm to Starbuck she’s the “harbinger of death.” Death of humans, or death of Cylons? I gotta believe a Hybrid would know about the one responsible for eradicating Cylons, not humans. I always felt the “harbinger” talk was meant to be a warning to Cylons.
Final Thoughts
One disc to go. Whew! It’s been a wild ride. How will it end? I expect mass destruction and a high body count. Oh, and they have to find someplace to live. I wonder if the Colony has spare rooms available?

All I was doing was laughing, a spoiler would have been “Neither do the writers”…. oopps! :-p
I really wanted to buy Hera’s star musical map prop when it was for sale, then it occurred to me that I could have my little one do the same thing, so I did. It’s even better than Hera’s if I do say so myself! ;)
I will leave my opinion in the whole Boomer/Chief thing out of this discussion (lest be assaulted by BSG once again :) ), but I do want to state again how incredibly AWESOME that final montage-ish sequence in Someone to Watch Over Me was/is. The bit where the song finally becomes incredibly obvious matched with the overhead shot of Starbuck and Slim/Slick (? Can’t remember the character’s name) playing… Probably one of my favorite sequences in the entire show.
We are in agreement about that scene. The powerful music, the joining of the puzzle pieces – pure dramatic yumminess.
And Chief’s weakness is still a big sore spot with me.
I agree. I thought it was one of the best acted and directed episodes in the series.

I loved “Someone to watch over me” it was my favorite episode of the entire series. I also thought it was cool how they got the composer involved in the writing process. I also agree that Starbuck is one of my favorite characters of the series. You really feel for her.
I have always thought that Boomer’s fortunes throughout the series was one of the saddest storys in television legacy. I realize many would not agree with that but anyone who knows of my loyalty to Boomer will concede the point, at least to me. No matter how the series turned out, Boomer’s story (as well as Sharon’s), will always stir the ultimate range of emotions within me.
The remark I made last week in regard to this site was careless and uncalled for, and I realized that even before my deserved dressing down. I was celebrating my son’s six- month birthday and on coming home after dinner it might have been the coaxing of one brandy too many…. (I don’t drink very often, perhaps I am more vunerable to it’s effects….I don’t know). Whatever the case, there is no excuse for it. I had put my foot in my mouth….yet again. I was impolite and any grievences I have (real or imagined) should not have been spoken in that manner. I apologise to Keith and the rest of the talented bloggers on this fine site, who throughout the years have generously allowed me to air my views and opinions. And to that, I am so very grateful.
