Saying so long to HawthoRNe

jada pinkett smith hawthorneThe time has come to say so long,
I tried, and tried, but for me you’re wrong.
Jada Pinkett Smith
, forgive my forsaking,
The work that you’ve done, my heart it’s not taken.

TNT knows drama, of cops and of robbers,
Leverage
combines thieves with do-gooder plotters.
Grace
and The Closer, and Dark Blue with badges
Raising the Bar
even follows the adage.

-

But HawthoRNe, what is it that you look to be?
Six episodes I’ve watched, and I still wait to see.
This week you brought us a bunch of emotion,
But tears and some heartbreak are no winning potion.

Sure, guest stars you’ve offered, Like “Bunk” and Mike Ealy,
But lacking the substance of compelling theory,
You throw us some bling, some candy, some flash,
Ignoring the fact that our needs just don’t match.

-

For stories you give us Christina the widow,
Who tries to administrate all but the pillows.
She pushes and pulls, and comes to the rescue,
But the line between nurses and doctors she eschews.

-

Camille and Amanda both grate on her nerves
I’m not sure their treatment they truly deserve.
Camille is rebellious, on that I don’t argue,
But demanding “pee in this cup,” Christina will rue.

-

Baby Moses and Isabel are one of the constants,
The show tries to win us with stories of infants.
The truth is this plotline is little more than distraction,
From the fact that HawthoRNe is lacking in action.

-

Nurse Ray and Candy are there for the laughs,
But more funny would be the mating call of giraffes.
Bobbie and Tom are Christina’s close friends,
But beyond the mundane they rarely ascend.

-

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it once more:
It’s not that this show is really a bore,
Or bad, or offensive, dreadful or nasty,
And, trust me when I say, this decision’s not hasty.

-

But time is so precious, there’s little to spare,
Most nights I drift off in my TV’s bright glare.
And so, I bid adieu, to HawthoRNe and Jada …
It’s been nice to know you, so long, see ya lata!

-

Oh, wait, before leaving, I want to just mention,
Something I think that just might ease the tension.
Give me a shout, or just drop a line,
If you add Darwyn or Will, then, yeah, your show’d be just fine.

-

Or is that in poor form?

: ) Great article. I love the prose. Much like you, Aryeh, I have been watching the show since the beginning, but I’m starting to loose interest. There isn’t much to the show but the occasional tear and some laughs, and the plot lines are weak.

Have you noticed how incompetent the doctors are in that hospital? Why is Christina always right? I know nurses are supposed to know more than doctors about what goes on in hospitals, but are the doctors in this hospital so incompetent that Nurse Hawthorne has to point out every little mistake. Almost every step she’s taken shows that she is disrespectful to the doctors and insubordinate to authority. If I was the head of that hospital, she would have been gone a LONG time ago.

Thanks!

I also find it frustrating that the doctors need to be incompetent for the nurses to shine. It’s true on Nurse Jackie, too, and I can see it coming on the network’s nurses shows coming this fall/spring.

Never watched the show myself, but bravo on the new genre of poetique prose that cliqueclack is offering (there was the one about Royal Pains) and to you on the fine execution.

:)

Julia inspired me to give it a whirl. I didn’t think I’d be able to get “eschew” in there, but I did!

I’ve been watching since the beginning, but it’s not ‘must see tv’. In fact if TNT didn’t replay it at the same time that the news came on, I might miss it and not even notice.

Is it really preferable to the news…?

Yeah, it’s preferable to my local news, lol. I watch National news at 6.
