In the course of a regular season, this episode might have worked very well. Instead, it played as the return episode for a canceled series that had been off the air for more than four months. As such, with the details of the Darling family saga less than fresh in my mind, I think Clark may have just confused me more.
I appreciate the inventiveness of the script, the blatant nod to one of my favorite films of all time. Clark has been loyal to a fault to the Darling family, so I’ll admit that I was confused by his openness and candor to the reporter. And while the details of his story seemed a little odd, I found myself struggling with my memory of past events.Even stranger was that missing daughter Juliet was fully a part of the cast in this episode. She’s been conspicuously absent the entire season, so you’d think a cameo appearance would be officially canon. Instead, it was part of Clark’s creative weaving.
The nod to The Usual Suspects was pretty blatant, especially at the end when the details of Clark’s stories were seen in the objects surrounding him. Still it was an appreciated, if not fully understood, subterfuge. Shouldn’t the reporter be informed enough to know that he made up the clothing line as well as the country Juliet was off to?
Beyond that, I’m not even sure why Clark went to such lengths to “expose too much,” just so he could become the informant for the Darling family to this reporter. Control the press, I guess? It is handy that if he ever decides to hold out on her, she can run with any of that other crap and ruin her career.
Still, it would have been nice to have a more traditional episode of DSM for its return rather than a bizarre meandering series of made-up lies. I realize that this burn-off is for fans only, but a series of lies isn’t even the best reminder of what we’ve been missing to those of us who’ve stuck with this story.
I loved the episode..i think I was just so happy to see it back again that I would sat through any storyline. It was nice to revisit everyone. The only person that we did not see enough of was Nick! Oh..and Jeremy only had a small part. Clark was awesome though!
If you’re talking about salvatore ferregamo, it is an actual designer with haute couture ranges and fashion ranges. Primarily in menswear (hence Clark owning a tie) but they have collections for women too.
I’m wondering what the real story behind this episode is, did anyone else notice that there were, like, 5 directors and 6 or 7 writers on it. Was each segment originally supposed to be a separate episode? I’m curious.
Overall, I thought it was a waste of time, and will probably frustrate people. It was a poor choice of return episode.
Who played the reporter?
Bryan Singer was executive producer for this episode. He also produced and directed The Usual Suspects.
