I told you! I told you that Sucio, silent movie and all, would rock episode three of the fifth season of Weeds! How great was he? I mean, I can’t get the image of him sanding off a guy’s face (season 4) out of my head, but he definitely knows how to play the silent comic. Go Mexico!
Unfortunately, the guy’s missing, and I’m willing to bet he’ll never return. But, I’m glad we got to see another side of him before he left us. It may have been dark comedy, but that’s the show. If you’re really expecting something different, you’re on the wrong page.
With all the good going on so far this season, let’s take a minute to dispense with the bad. What is going on with Celia, and why is she still around to annoy us? And, yes, I know that a lot of you love her, but she’s terrible! From her arcs, to her annoying voice and dialogue, there’s nothing useful about her. She adds nothing to the show. Even the Mexican rebels dumped her on a bus out of town. While I realize that in Weeds’ world, that was in order to set up her next storyline, but, I have to imagine that there’s something more behind that. When will the writer’s ship her off and away from us?
Then there’s Jill (Jennifer Jason Leigh). I don’t know why in the world anyone thought that Nancy needed a sister all of a sudden, but why not pick someone less annoying? Or, who can act? Or, who’s believable as Nancy’s sister? Or, who isn’t another disgusting adulteress? Again, I’m sure there’s a grand scheme out there for the character, but why must we suffer through another crappy addition just to get to wherever the writers want to be? Spare us the irritation!
Other than that, episode three of Weeds was all good. Silas and Doug are an amazing duo … I can’t even tell you how much I laughed with the two of them. Between the medical marijuana application, and bribing the cop for his signature (by the way, why do they need to bribe a cop in order to get a signature for a perfectly legal undertaking? Does no one do any research on anything on television? It’s like accepting anything and everything the doctor tells you without turning on your brain!) … just awesome!
Doug, stoned or not, is hilarious. Kevin Nealon is well-known as a comedian, but he was either off or missing for the last season or two. Well, Nealon has finally found his stride again, and the gold dropping out of his mouth is enough to please all the prospectors in Deadwood for years to come (yeah, I just started watching the series, and I am not even mildly impressed).
Not to be left in the dust, Andy staked a claim when he met Esteban (Demian Bichir) for the first time. Even being fully aware of the situation, Andy’s refusal to be silenced by the Mayor of Mexican drug-town is Justin Kirk back to form as well. I love the banter with Nancy about the Mexican gynecologist (“A Mexican gyno? Nance, if you’re putting together a Mariachi band, yes, go Mexican. Down there, you want a Jew.”), and, saying goodbye to Esteban by telling him he’d be a great father was just the perfect close to a highly entertaining couple of minutes.
All in all, no complaints from me. Weeds has found some fertile ground to plant its seedlings in, and is currently growing only the purest strain of genius. Keep up the good work!
Celia should have been dropped from the show when the redone came on in the 4th season, she has been pointless ever since.
I will miss Sucio. I really hope he’s not dead. There is so much potential there. This episode was much better than last weeks episode.

I just hope this isn’t the return of Cesar. I don’t dislike him, but … he is kind of freaky.
