30 Rock – Jack learns about his real dad

30 RockSometimes I wish my favorite dramas would move as fast as a sitcom. After all, it was just last week that we learned that Jack found out that his father was not his biological father. Fast forward one week and we have all the answers, including meeting Jack’s real dad. It’s sort of refreshing after five seasons of watching Lost….

In any case, Liz was almost a little too excited to find out that Jack had three potential fathers tracked down by the private investigator (Steve Buschemi, in an all too brief cameo). I thought it was funny watching Liz become increasingly giddy at the thought of a Mamma Mia scenario.

For me, the secondary plot was even funnier than Jack and his dads. I loved Liz and Pete trying to figure out how old Tracy was and how old his “Illegitimate son” was. It was a clever and funny plot. Overall, I thought this was a strong, but not spectacular episode of 30 Rock.

It was great to see Alan Alda, and with the episode ending with him asking Jack for a kidney, I’m sure we’ll get to see more of him. I’m looking forward to more of him and Jack getting know each other, and most likely getting into highly amusing arguments.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the episode:

“I don’t have a lot of personal life experience, but if I have learned anything from my Sims family: when a child doesn’t see his father enough he starts to jump up and down and then his mood level will drop until he pees himself.” – Liz

“When Donald came to me, he was a fast talking charmer from the wrong side of the tracks. He reminded me of someone, Liz Lemon: John Travolta’s character from Grease… and me!” – Tracy

“I may hug people too hard and get lost in malls, but I’m not an idiot.” – Tracy
