So, here we go again.
Hot on the heels of Susan Boyle exploding all over the Internets, Britain’s Got Talent has found yet another middle-aged, down-on-his-luck singer with a surprisingly good voice: Jamie Pugh, a pizza delivery man who overcomes crippling stage fright to dazzle the BGT crowd with his rendition of “Bring Him Home.”
Based on the popularity of the Boyle clip and the slam-dunk potential of the Pugh clip (it’s already on the front page of Digg), I’ve decided to start pitching my new reality show Socially Awkward People Doing Surprising Things. Each week, people with bad teeth or a social disorder will do things like sing or dance or act. As the audience for BGT seems to be shocked into stunned standing ovations whenever someone who doesn’t look good in a bathing suit is able to sing, I think I’ve got a winner on my hands.
I vote for a production of Les Mis entirely cast by the awkward folks at BGT.
I think ITV are planning Les Mis, and using You Tube to promote it. A clever use of social media? ;)
