So, the Frank Lutz/Henry Cole storyline came to an interesting conclusion. I like that they didn’t drag it out forever into infinity, but the way it played out this week made for much better storytelling and opened the possibility for conflict in the future.
I’ve been wondering if Walsh made the right decision by not turning Cole in for all his past crimes and recent involvement with Lutz. But because Cole was willing to do the right thing — turn Lutz in and go down with him — I think that made Walsh go, OK, this guy really IS trying to do the right thing and be a better person.
Still, it makes for an interesting situation, because if Cole ever does anything wrong or crosses Walsh enough to tick him off, that could be all she wrote for Cole.
But I can’t think of anything more tragic than Walsh’s not-girlfriend Beaumont getting caught in the crossfire of the shootout between Walsh and Lutz (unless she’d died, of course). And it’s nice to see a cop with a hospital phobia. I like that in my cops (including Banks seeing hospitals as a big petri dish, even though he stole that line from Niles on Frasier).
Think Walsh’s decision to let Cole off will come back to haunt him later?

If the show does continue, I don’t think Walsh’s decision will lead to some tragedy or a tired confrontation with Cole. Any other cop show would trot that out quickly enough, which is why I think The Unusuals is smart enough to take the storyline in a different direction.
I really like this show and hwo the characters are being developed.
