The Big Bang Theory – Zoicks! A girl in the comic book store?

The boys from The Big Bang Theory

Perhaps due to Howard’s presence, the theme of tonight’s show reminded me of some local shock jocks some years back. Instead of “whip ‘em out” Wednesday (you can figure out the meaning), the Big Bang Theory guys decided to spice their own lives up with “Anything Can Happen Thursday.” Although Howard Wolowitz could definitely get into “WOW” Wednesdays, the lives of these four are just a bit more mundane.

How mundane is it, you ask? Well, new comic books come out every Wednesday. So that’s the standing social event for them on that day. But here’s where life takes a trippy into the light fantastic … what if they go to the comic book store on Thursday, too? Wow, now there’s some living dangerously.

Penny arrived and took the trip with them, becoming the stranger in an even stranger land. Sure, the comic book geeks were a bit exaggerated. I’m a woman, but I’m familiar with the medium. (I was on the Review Board for The Friends of Lulu for a few years, dabbled in writing comics, attended comic conventions in San Diego, NYC, Philadelphia, and Chicago. I’m qualified to judge comic book geeks, y’see.) Exaggerated or not, it’s definitely a male-dominated medium and often the men are um … a tad geeky. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you.

I noticed Penny found the gem in the shop — the artist geek. Perhaps she felt a bit uncomfortable around Captain Sweatpants, but I swear I know that guy and he’s totally harmless! When Stuart sketched her, she was taken. Yeah, artists can do that until you see their paychecks. It’s too bad Sheldon had to horn in and get Stuart into a comic book universe debate.

No, Sheldon. Stuart is right. The original Robin, Dick Grayson, became Nightwing. He can’t be the successor to Batman. He has his own history. My suspension of disbelief I incorporate while watching TBBT took a dent when Sheldon took such a ridiculous stand in the debate. Sheesh. Of course, Penny slept through it all. I’d kind of like to see Stuart as a recurring character. But it could be the comic book geek within me.

Penny fit in much better in the comic book store than Howard, Raj, and Leonard did in the bar. That was just sad.

Jackie, he did that to distract Stuart from Penny. Trust me :-)

But agree on the Nightwing thing. Joke of the night for me was “It’s wrong to say a Tomato is a vegetable. It’s more wrong to say it’s a suspension bridge” Loved that one.

Hey Raj got some big girl love, so he fit in pretty well.

Sebastian, I agree! I think Sheldon and Penny will end up together somehow as well…

What was the name of the comic that was recommended to Penny in this issue?

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

Is Stuart from the comic book store related to T. J. Thyne
from “Bones”? They look quite a bit alike.
