Just one episode of Scrubs this week, and it feels right. The writers do such a good job of wrapping up their plotlines along a similar theme or common element, that it’s almost too much that we were getting those back-to-back installments. That and it was rushing us headlong to an early end for the show. And just when it’s really holding that great groove it’s found this season …
No sign of the interns this time, but who cares? Now that we’re pretty sure this is the swan song for the series, I’d rather be spending what little time we have left with the regulars rather than getting to know new people we won’t be getting to know by this time next year. And this was couples week.
Can I just say that I am absolutely loving the Janitor/Lady relationship. The moment when he tried to talk to her and started babbling insane things, cut himself off because he knew it was insane and then went even crazier… That’s just classic! The janitor is absolutely insane and Lady loves him anyway. Hell, her germophobia is nothing compared to his … everything.
We got to touch on all four couplings this time around, with only Dr. Kelso relegated to bit gags here and there. Actually, now that I think about it, Elliott didn’t show up until halfway through the episode either. But that was primarily due to Turk’s bizarre paralysis case.
Honestly, as much as it was about hope and doing everything you can for someone, the whole storyline with the paralyzed kid seemed a little forced to me. It was also a little odd that the kid had no lines and was basically unconscious the whole time; instead we got the trauma through his father.
Turk then goes to Carla for advice on this instead of Cox? Did he even get Cox’s approval to do it? Wouldn’t he need that? I know it’s a comedy and I’m probably overthinking it, but this was the only weak point in an otherwise good episode.
I enjoyed seeing Cox and Jordan begrudgingly admit, in their own special way, affection for one another. Then Janitor and Lady moving forward into a more serious phase of their relationship. In fact, JD and Elliott’s relationship was pretty boring in comparison. Maybe they’re right and we are tired of hearing about it. It’s just kind of been there this season, not really driving any major storylines, which is kind of odd. Does that mean it will stick this time?
