Sure, I could talk about how obvious the identity of the killer was on last night’s episode of The Mentalist. But I’d rather talk about lesbians.
One of the plot twists in the episode was the fact that a couple of the Real Housewives of Sacramento County were lesbians. Rigsby and Cho caught them in bed together at a hotel. Of course, this scene probably would have had a little more effect on viewers if it hadn’t been shown 300 times during the past week in promos for the show. I guess this is one of those moments when it pays not to watch a lot of television. That could have been a cool twist out of nowhere, but if you saw the promos, you saw it coming. I wanted to see more of these women and learn more about the whole lesbian thing. I always want to know more about the lesbian thing. This show needs more lesbians.
And sword fights! In a review of an earlier episode, I mentioned that the show needs more action. Specifically, I’d like to see Jane use his fists as well as his brain. He had a mock sword fight with the son of the murder victim tonight, but I’d like to see a real one. Jane seems like the type of person who would be into some sort of classical fighting like sword fighting. For a moment there I thought that that kid was going to be the killer, poisoning his mom because she didn’t let him watch the newest episode of Fairly OddParents. That could have led to a great scene on the staircase, Jane fighting the kid to the death with plastic swords a la The Three Musketeers, jumping and swinging on chandeliers. It certainly wouldn’t have been predictable.
But even without an abundance of lesbians and swords, it was a good episode.
Lesbians and Swordfights. I’m glad you posted a picture or otherwise the double-entendre would’ve killed me …
I didn’t even notice the lesbians since it was so quick. Then again, I’m not a guy ;)
However, I’d like to shout out to Rigsby’s hooking up with one of the female members of the club. They’ve done a good job with his crush on Van Pelt, the build up to his confession and the aftermath, so if he wants to move on I’m all for it. I think most shows tend to shift their characters in and out of relationships/crushes too quickly, but I think the timing with Van Pelt-Rigsby was just right. I also loved her jealous/possessive glance afterwards. Since Cho had his chance last week and Rigsby this, who’s getting some McLovin next?
I am soooo over all the lesbian characters appearing in split second spots just to titilate the straight male demographic. “OMG lesbians” but the second there is a male/male kiss its “Ewww gross get that off my TV”. Now don’t misinterprut this as being anti lesbian. I want more lesbians as regular cast members. Van Pelt would have made a great lesbian. And the asian guy would make a great gay character. Bring us out in the open as regulars rather than just split second plot development purely for water cooler attention.
I love The Mentalist, but Cho and Rigsby have to improve their “stakeout” skills. In last week’s episode, they were on a stakeout at night, but sat so close to a street light, Cho could read a book. In last night’s show, they parked directly in front of the home they were watching.
