Saturday night television programming is usually slim pickings. I suppose they think the entire world is out dating or something. While I do like that some of the network shows from earlier in the week are re-broadcast on Saturday nights, I’ve often seen them by the time Saturday evening rolls around. So, although I’m not an avid viewer of America’s Most Wanted, I definitely catch some episodes.
Did you know that we are responsible for the capture of 1056 fugitives to date? Well, not me. I haven’t caught a one yet. I keep looking. Who knows? While the show is definitely a fine crime-fighting tool, it’s also a starting ground for new actors used in the dramatizations.
Sopranos cast members Vincent Pastore and Edie Falco both did bits for the show before they became big fish. I notice she doesn’t seem to list the credit, but she played the wife of a murderer some years before The Sopranos took off. One of the AMW episodes I caught was an anniversary show and she was in a clip. Also in the clip were folks who played the ne’er-do-wells and ended up getting turned in to the show. I guess that’s a hazard they face in taking on the acting gig.
Even though I don’t watch this show religiously, I have to give it kudos for a job well done. Walsh turned his own personal family tragedy into a cause. And, his cause has actually helped society on the whole. From the “Code Adam” alerts for missing children in stores, to awareness and self-defense lessons for children, to capturing thugs, murderers, child molesters and all kinds of scum — the show does its part.
I don’t ever want to be on it, though. Nope. I’m not an actor, so I’d have to be either a featured evil doing person or a victim. I am neither. But I do look in the faces of fellow commuters just in case one of them has been featured.
