Dirty Sexy Money – The Verdict

ABC

ABC

(Season 2, Episode 5)

Well, the episode title was a little misleading. Yes, we got a verdict in the Letitia Darling trial, but it didn’t come as you would traditionally expect one to. We also got a little deeper into the goings-on behind Simon Elder and what he’s up to as it relates to Darling Enterprises, and how far his reach is. It’s interesting to me that when we first met Elder, he was this philanthropist billionaire, every bit as powerful as the Darlings, but seemingly far more benign.

In a way, I’m incredibly disappointed at how duplicitous and underhanded he is turning out to be. It’s also a bit much that either Elder or a Darling appears to be behind every little thing that’s happening in this show like Machiavellian puppet masters. Wouldn’t it have been refreshing to see an incredibly wealthy person turn out to be an all around decent person?

By the same token, I was really hoping that Nola Lyons was her own person. I enjoyed her cut-throat determination to take down Letitia for murdering Nick’s father, and even her tactics in trying to weasel her way into Patrick’s staff so as to keep a close tab on the family. Considering her desire to take them down, however, it was a bit abrupt to consider that she’d turn around from that and work so hard to defend one of the most embattled.

The bottom line is that I have absolutely no idea what the true motives or desires are of either Tripp Darling or Simon Elder. Perhaps Simon really is just doing all of this to trigger a hostile takeover of Darling Enterprises, but if that were the case, then why would he tip Nick off to his plans with Karen and get her disinherited from the company? It seems as if he knew that was going to happen. Perhaps there are smarter brains out there than mine who can figure this all out.

I assume that we will find out at some point that Simon is related to the Darlings, as is half of Manhattan. That will be a cop-out to story, but I’m out of other guesses.

I don’t like the addition of Lucy Liu at all. Even helping Simon she does nothing for me. And, seriously, the Darlings are ridiculously accepting an open with people. For the power they have it should be much more difficult to work your way into the inside of that family. How am I to believe that the woman prosecuting their matriarch would not be rolled in a background check? I don’t buy it.

Nick and Lisa’s break up scene was very touching…until he wandered over the the skank and threw himself at her. WTF? That cheapened an otherwise good scene. And try as I might, I don’t understand how Nick could say “no” to Lisa and her desire to open a studio, whatever it took. Why did she have to be rescued by a Darling? Nick is never home and has time only for Darlings. The least he could have done was to do whatever it took to make Lisa’s dream come true. He’s turning into an ass I no longer want to encourage with my interest.

So there. ;-)

Totally agree with the observations about Peter….in the beginning he was this great guy and now he is just a selfish, jealous ass. If he had been there for Lisa she would have never had anything to do with Jeremy, he really shouldn’t blame her after all the stuff that happened with what’s her name…Karen? Ass! My favorite character continues to be Patrick.
