True Blood – Cold Ground

“Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere.” – Bill to Sookie

True Blood just keeps getting better and better. It’s the kind of show I’d watch non-stop on DVD, just like I did with Alan Ball‘s Six Feet Under — though I admit that some of the bloody scenes gross me out. Like Adele’s body splattered all over the kitchen and the cat lapping up her blood. Or the end scene with Sookie and Bill. Yowza! I kind of saw that coming, but thought they’d probably string it out a few more episodes. Still, I’m glad it happened. I think. Talk about a power couple.

I can’t imagine going through life with Sookie’s ability to read other peoples’ thoughts, especially when they’re not always kindly towards you. I feel for the girl. She shows amazing reserve most of the time, but I can understand why she’d lose it at Adele’s funeral.

And the scene with her weeping over Adele’s pecan pie just tore me apart! It’s Alan Ball at his best. Plus, when I was growing up, we had a red and white metal kitchen stool, just like the one in Adele’s kitchen. Good times.

Other high points:

  • Bill rushing to Sookie’s bedside when he thought she was in trouble.
  • The confrontation between Sam and Bill, their eyes burning holes in each others’ head.
  • The hillbilly cops and officials discussing things over Adele’s bloody body.
  • Lafayette traveling with a baggie full of pills.
  • Jason going off on Sookie in a withdrawal haze.
  • Tara reconnecting with her mom at the end.
  • Sookie finding Bill’s gravesite.

Maybe she just needed to connect with someone, and that’s why she ended up at Bill’s that night. And since she’s already different, in that she can read peoples’ thoughts, maybe she figured she might as well go all the way. Thoughts?

The blood doesn’t bother me, but all the sex does. How many times are we going to see Jason and someone?? Every single episode? I get it already.

Otherwise I like this show.

So blood (and violence) is alright but sex isn’t?

How very American of you…

I have to admit, Jason’s gratuitous sex scenes tend to distract from the show for me (as do the gore and blood on occasion, but it’s a vamp show so . . .). If they kept his lust to mini snippets, it’d be fine i.e. last week a 5-10- sec shot of him fully clothed with bar divorcee. And this week the 5-sec butt shot. But, my main problem is that his pounding sex scenes (i.e. the end shot) are always the same and never include the main characters. As such, they don’t do much for me in terms of character development. Also, how is his penis still attached after all of that?

On a side note, for character hookups I did get into (talk about contradictory :), at first I was disappointed between the initial kisses between Sam and Tarah as well as Bill and Sookie (contrasted with their on-screen chemistry in past eps), but it clearly heated up once both pairs returned to the horizontal plane -

LOL – it’s funny that everyone is talking about the sex scenes. They don’t bother me at all, especially with Jason. Why? Because they make me dislike the character, and at this point I think that is just what they are supposed to do. I have to believe there will be a turning point where something hits him and it will be big, making him regret his lustful transgressions.

I loved Sookie at the funeral…they do need to shut the f*ck up – What a bunch of catty creeps they have living in that town.

I’m wondering what will happen between Sam and Tara. He basically told her that if they did that, then they are “going there” with some sort of a relationship, even if it means they are just not in hiding. Then she jumped up and ran to her mother. Is that because he made her feel? Surprisingly, I like them together. She gets on my nerves with her hardass persona, but with him she is softer and a bit more realistic. And it keeps her away from Jason.

Finally – the end between Bill and Sookie. I was all mushy and had goosebumps. LOL; I’m such a chick! I love when the conflicted, complicated, sexy bad boy and the girl get together. So very Spike/Buffy, Veronica/Logan, Maria/Michael…..yay!!!

I can’t wait until next week.

The show is great. The review leaves something to be desired. It’s a good show, it deserves more attention.
