Recently, I was able to attend the Whatever, Martha premiere party in New York City. Hosts Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt were in attendance, as was the grande dame herself, Martha Stewart. Ever since the news broke about this series, the big question has been, “what does Martha think of this?” After all, the entire premise of the show revolves around her daughter and her daughter’s friend (gently!) (lovingly!) mocking Martha’s seminal show, Martha Stewart Living.
So the answer to the burning question? Well, it was kind of her idea. She may have become famous for wedding cakes and flower arrangements, but Martha Stewart is nothing if not a savvy business woman. She looked at the fact that she had hours upon hours of footage of her past craft projects and, like any crafty person, realized they could be reused. Enter Alexis and Jennifer.
The duo has had their own show on Martha’s Sirius satellite station for the past three years. Called Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer, the show has gained popularity for offering the two hosts’ unique take on life, work, family, and yes, sometimes Martha. Apparently the idea to join forces was actually Martha’s.
Are you still having trouble believing that Martha Stewart is not only okay with a show that mocks her but actually came up with the idea herself? Alexis, Jennifer and Martha were all wearing midnight blue and black– and color-coordinated outfits don’t lie, people.
