USA, why, oh why, have you abandoned me? Again?

USA Network

USA Network

It happens every season, or should I say, every few weeks. Just when USA’s shows begin, they abruptly end, shattering my television watching enjoyment for yet another several months. Here’s an example:

Burn Notice‘s new season premieres, and I religiously tune in every week. I snicker at the voice-overs, the incessant yogurt-eating and Mike’s crazy mother. The action has me on the edge of my seat, and I anxiously await each episode’s mini-reveal of the burn notice conspiracy. And how about Fiona flaunting the new beau? Priceless! Just as I am really getting into the season, I see the ad for the season finale. Say what?

Not with me yet? Here’s another:

Psych premieres. I laugh, I cry, I laugh some more. I cry basically at the many ’80s references that make me feel so repugnantly old. I get the warm fuzzies inside when Shawn flirts with Jules, and I am liking the character growth this season: Lassiter became more human, Shawn toned down his “visions,” Gus stepped up his neuroticism for the best. So why then, is Psych‘s season gone before it begins?

Don’t speak to me of budgetary concerns; I want my TV shows! It doesn’t seem right that According to Jim taunts me with it’s full season on ABC. Where’s the love, USA? I’ve been abandoned, dare I say forsaken by you, season after season.

Where do you leave me, USA? Am I to be debased into watching Lost along with the rest of the sheep of TV viewing land? Will I need to listen to Meredith Grey whine to Izzy about her failed relationship, her dysfunctional childhood, her oh-so-damaged self, simply because there is nothing else on TV?

I pine for my USA shows, I mourn the loss of entertaining television for several months ahead, and I pray, yes, pray, that some of the new premieres will offer me the couch potato opportunities that USA so aptly provides.

I agree with you. I thought the whole purpose of the smaller seasons of shows on cable was so they could air them with no breaks. If they want to act like a big network then they should have longer seasons or have original shows every night of the week.
