Blueberry cake, mango-banana ice cream, white pizza sauce – Recipe Roundup

mango sorbet

Is it treat time again? Not necessarily, but the title of this post would surely imply that, wouldn’t it? The two I picked are very healthy treats that I’m dying to make, because I am sure that I wouldn’t feel cheated out of a decadent dessert if I ate these.

Which brings me to the decadent savory items that have crossed my path this week. We ate at a restaurant that offered gluten-free pizza, so Owen and I could order pizza in a restaurant. Very exciting, and there’ll be more on that, but since our favorite was the broccoli, onion and feta pizza with white sauce, I was compelled to look up white sauce and find out what sinful things were in that luscious stuff. Ready to find out?

Yeah, it’s bad, but oh, so good. These variations of  white pizza sauce include milk (no wonder I was wishing I had lactase pills!), butter, flour, herbs and spices, sometimes wine and sometimes cheese. Definitely couldn’t suck, and certainly didn’t.

If you’re looking for a vegetarian dinner menu, maybe you’ll like the sounds of this one: golden chick pea soup with sweet squash corn muffins seems like the perfect balance of comfort food, yet light and healthy too. I’ve never tried this recipe, but I have a pumpkin-corn muffin recipe that is to-die-for, and something tells me this will be a close match.

This recipe for old-fashioned blueberry cake was so interesting to me, as Heidi Swanson retooled a vintage recipe that she describes as sounding luscious to me — sweetened only with the blueberries and molasses. Mmmmm… cake.

What do you think about a mango-banana ice cream that doesn’t actually contain any cream? I’m all for coconut milk ice cream, but silken tofu? I’m skeptical, but this recipe is so healthy that it’s got me curious.
